Another fun project

So I have decided to repaint most of my house...at least the main living spaces. So last night I tackled the hallway and today Alex and I, and Zach a little, finished the living room. Surprisingly Alex did a pretty good job and listen to everything I was telling him. I think he really enjoyed it. Here are a few before and after pics for everyone to see.

?????

I do not understand the laundry in this house. It seems like I am washing a load and out at least 1 load away a day. usually kid stuff, sometimes mine, and the few shirts Rob will sneak into our laundry. That's right I make my husband do his own laundry. He is a big boy and can handle it.
But everytime I go to put laundry away, fold it, hand it up etc.... we ALWAYS seem to be missing socks! Where do they go???? Do the kids hide one and throw one in the basket? I don;t understand. I have a basket full of mismatched socks. And when I actually get the motivation to go threw it and see if any matches have been made it seems like I find 2 or 3 but then add more that do not have matches. I will never understand this about the laundry. All I want to know is where the hell are all the socks???????????

busy sunday

So for the past 3 years I have been living with this in my kitchen!

HORRIBLE! I hated that backsplash and the cabinets actually use to be an ugly brown as well.So yesterday morning I went out got some paint and Sarah aka my twin and I went to work to finish up the kitchen. We did all the painting no problem then decided we could remove the sink and countertop and get the new one in before the guys got back from golfing! Well the countertop was kinda being a bitch, but after awhile we got it loosened up. And then moved onto the sink. Let me tell you, the stuff in sink drains is disgusting! So we turned off the water and were working on loosening some stuff when the guys came home.
Rob was surprised, to say the least, at what was going on and decided that he was going to finish the sink for us. About an hour later we had success!

Onto the countertop! Since Sarah I use loosened this all up all Rob had to do was cut it in half and we were able to pull the old one off. When it came time to putting the new one on it was a very tight fit, and took some elbow grease and a few pounds from the rubber mallet but it was in. And all was good until Rob broke a pipe for the sink and we came to a halt. But it does look better now thanks to the help of Sarah, and our great ideas to try things ourselves!

Date night!

Ahhhh every parents favorite night. Leave the kids with a sitter and go out and act like adults. Of course while you are out you still talk about your kids, but at least they are not there... right?
So tonight is our 3rd Saturday in a rwo going out! This NEVER happens. Usually we max out at 2 Saturdays a month and never 3 in a row. And it is great because we keep doing something different... not your mormal dinner and a movie type thing.
The first week we met up with some buddies from college and played in a poker tournament. It was like being at SIU all over again, only most of us are now married and have at least one kid. But overall still fun. We did not win the tournament, or make the top four, but we did get a lot of cheap beer so that is still a success story in my book.
Last Saturday we went to Kelly and Riches to celebrate Kelly turning 29. Since she was out of town for her real b-day she through a party for all of us to come too. It was a fun time, minus the random people showing up and drinking my corona! It was another late night of 4am when we came rolling in but also a fun night.
And tonight we are going to top golf. Rob is VERY excited because he always wants me to golf with him and personally I do not like golfing. So I figure I will hit a few golf balls but mostly drink some beer while he hits a lot of them. And hopefully we will get home a little earlier than we have the past 2 weeks but who knows!Either way it is sure to be a relaxing not out without any kids!

good friend

So I am actually going to change a name because I do not know if this person wants to fully be in the blog.
I have a friend, we will call her Donna. We became friends about 2.5 years ago due to the fact that we both have kids and similar personalities. Well this is why I like Donna. And just for the record she also got the approval of my mom after about 15 mins so that's always a good sign.
Both of us are SAHM and we understand that it is a very fun yet exhausting job. And yes, it is a job! We also have boys that are close in age and seem to be going through some of the same stages when it comes to behavior. Now what is awesome is the fact that I can call or her vice versa and let he know when Alex is being a brat or she can tell me when her son is being a brat and we do not judge each other. We do not tell other people that each others kids are brats we just understand that some days kids will try your patience until you think you might be sent to a mental institute for going insane.
We also are able to talk about any issues we might be having with our husbands and once again not judge or gossip. I have very few people that I will call and bitch about Rob too, and she is one of them because I know she is not going to blow it up to be something it is not.
I mean lets face it, sometimes you get annoyed with your spouse. And especially when you are SAHM because you have your way of doing things and when they are not done or done differently it can be frustrating. And after a very long day sometimes you want to be able to put your feet up and have someone else clean up the toys. She gets that. So when I call her and complain about Rob, or vice versa, she listens, as do I and we just chat. No bullshit,no gossip, no stupid highschool drama.
And that is why I like my friend "Donna" :) Oh and since her personality is a lot like mine that also gives her bonus points in the awesome department! :)

My big man!

So in less than 5 weeks Alex will offically be in kindergarten! 5 weeks!!! It is crazy! Where has the time gone? I swear at one point he was just a little baby but I can hardly even remeber that. It seems like he has been walking, and talking and being a boy forever!

I am very excited for him to start. He loves to learn so I think he will have a lot of fun. Plus it will be nice for him to be around kids his age everyday and not always just with us, or the kids at the gym. And did I mention nap time will be back???? Since Alex will have afternoon classes the little ones will go down right after he catches the bus which means I will be napping as much as possible! The Darrow household should be quite quiet in the afternoons.

I know its just a few more years until Zach starts school as well. Next year he will be in preschool and at some point I will be down to just 1 kid at home!I can not believe how fast my babies are growing up! But for the next few weeks I will enjoy my time with Alex being here all day, and can not wait to hear all about his days at kindergarten!

Fun with an old friend!

So my friend Lauren came by today to spend sometime with the kids and me. Lauren and I have been friends since freshman year of highschool.... that means it has been 15 years!!! Holy crap when did we get so old??? We have one of those friendships that even though we are both busy with our lives and might not talk for a month or so we catch up right where we left off everytime.
So today she made the trip from the city to good old H.P. so we could go swimming with Alex and spend time with Zach and Addie as well. The kids love her. As we know Zach is our family greeter and walks up to everyone, says hello in his cute little voive, and then stricks up a conversation. Alex just wants to run around and play with Lauren and he was very excited to show her how he swims.
So we spent about 1.5 hours at the pool, came home, chatted and then she had to take off to fight traffic and get home. It was a great day. The little ones were worn out and hopefully by bedtime Alex will be tired as well. And I am hoping we can get together again before school starts for her and she once again falls into the black hole of teaching, grading, parent/teacher days and all the other activites she is a part of during the school year!

Pros and Cons

Sometimes being a parent is the most amazing thing and other times you think you are going insane. So here are my pros and cons of parenthood.

Pros-
1.Amazing hugs and kisses every time I walk in the door. I mean really who else gets so excited to see you every time you come home!
2.Cuddles on the bed, couch, floor etc....
3.watching babies turn into actual people.... they come out as blobs and before you know it they are walking, talking, on to the go, to much energy people! Its amazing!
4.Watching the excitement on your kids faces every time they learn something new
5.Being able to play at the park and not look like an idiot because you have kids with you!
6.Squishy,squishy babies!
7.Being able to be excited about Christmas all over again
8.kids being potty trained.... defiantly a win in any parents eyes!
9.Playing with toys all day... and knowing that you can because really you are just entertaining your children
10.having you kids tell you they love you and think you are the greatest person ever. I'm sure this will change in the teenage years but for now I will take it

Cons-
1.Poopy diapers
2.Less sleep
3.Constant worry
4.Wondering how someone so little could have such a big attitude. And wondering when it will end!
5.A messy house full of toys. And stepping on toys. There is nothing more annoying that a 3am trip to the bathroom and steeping on a matchbox car in the middle of the night!
6.Sick kids. Although the calmness is nice no parent wants to have a kid that doesn't feel well
7.Not being able to just leave the house and do what you want without having a diaper bag, bottles, snacks, sippy cups, and kids in tow!
8.Did I mention poopy diapers???????
9.How fast your kids grow up... seems like they are not little long enough!
10.Having to get out of bed and start your day at the crack of dawn because the kids are up and hungry and ready to play. Remember when you could sleep till noon?

Life is funny.....

When Alex was little I could not wait for him to do everything. I kept telling Rob I couldn't wait for him to crawl, and then walk and talk and how easy things were going to get!WRONG!!!!! As he got older he also got an attitude but it is nice that he can get in and out of the car by himself, pour himself something to drink, grab a snack etc....
With Zach I wanted him to grow up because I could not wait to see him and alex run around and play together. I thought days would be so much easier if Alex had someone to play with because I could get tings done without having him constantly ask me to play with him. And it was great for awhile, although now Zach is 2, and at times really is in the terible twos so it seems like lately there has been more fighting than playing. Zach is still at the age where he idolizes his older brother and wants to do EVERYTHING he does and gets very upset when we do not let him. He does not understand that some things he is still to small for. And Alex uses that to his advantage A LOT!!!!!
As for my little miss aka Addelyn she is growing really quick. She will be 6 months on Sunday! Crazy I know! She has 2 teeth and is scooting all over the place and will be crawling anyday now! But with her I do not want her to grow up! I think that since I know she is my last I want her to stay in the cute cuddely baby stage for as long as possible because I know she will be 1 way to soon!
Its so funny how life works! Everyone tells you when you are pregnant that it goes by to fast and you never fully understand until you are raising kids. And the more kids you have the faster time seems to fly by. But for now I wish it would just slow down a little and let me enjoy the kids while they are young and still think I am the coolest person ever because I know in a few years they are not going to want their mom around as much!

Waterpark!

Today my MIL, FIL and I took the boys to a waterpark for the first time... and they LOVED it! At first Zach was not to sure about the lazy river and being on a raft, but once he figured out he could just lay with me he was all about it. There was also a little section that was perfect for Zach. It had a couple small waterslides that he could go on.
Alex of course loved the basketball hoops. I think he was in there for at least an hour. I swear tht kid could shoot hoops all day. And he does have the height for it! There were also some larger waterslides for Alex. One with an innertub to ride on and one regular one. Alex and I raced down them a couple time.... he beat me each time! But at least I did not sprain any ankles! All in all the boys had a great time.
Alex was still full of energy and swimming around when Zach and I left. He will be spending the night at the hotel with his grandma tonight! Hopefully the waterpark wears him out!

Busy summer weekends!

Since summer began we have been non-stop on the weekends! Yesterday we had a birthday party for Alex's best friend Ryan.

I took both boys and they had a BLAST! A afternoon of swimming, playing basketball, driving cars, jumping on the moon jump and A LOT of cookies and popsicles. Needless to say I had 2 very tired little boys by the end of it. And I was exhausted, but did not have much down time because when we got home I had to jump in the shower and take off since Rob and I were meeting some old college buddies for a night of poker and drinking.
It was a great night and brought back many memories of being at SIU! Although even though we did not get home until after 3, unlike college we had to be up to take care of three little ones this morning.
Rob went golfing with his friend and the kids and I ventured out to meet Sarah and Elle for a day at the splash park/ playing in the sand.

Once again the kids had a blast and Sarah and I had time to catch up after she had been gone all week. Its great watching Zach and Elle play together. They are only 19 days apart so they are exactly at the same stage in life. And for the most part they get along REALLY well. Of course they have their moments, because they are 2 after all, but usually they are all smiles. And everywhere we go Alex always find one or two other kids to play with as well. Addie napped half the time we were their but loved being on the swings before we left while the others ran around and went on the slides and played in the sand. Once again I had some very tired kids when we headed home.
And now I am off. I need to shower and then I am going out for a nice kid free quiet dinner with Rob and hopefully to bed early because the fun and craziness of raising 3 kids starts all over again tomorrow!

Uterus overdrive!

I have been around 3 newborn babies in the last 2 days and I swear my uterus is in overdrive! I love love love little babies. I love holding them, squeezing them, having them sleep in your arms etc.....
I would so love to have another one. Not right now but sometime down the road in a year or so. I know it wouldn't happened since Rob got snipped but I gotta say a little part of me hopes that he is that 1% that it fails on. I know 3 is good, and keeps me busy, but Alex is about to start school in August. Kindergarten! And next year Zach will be in preschool as well so for part of the day I will be back down to 1. That seems crazy to me. I do not remember what it was like having 1 kid! Don't get me wrong its great watching my kids grow up and change and it will be nice down the road when it is just me and Rob, since we never got that when we were married! But it is also bittersweet!
I know we compromised on 3. I wanted/want 4 and Rob wanted 2 so it worked well. And we have a girl now so I am happy. Plus if I had another I would have to buy a bigger car and would probably be stuck with a minivan! But regardless of all that I still want one more. Who knows maybe Rob will make 150,000 next year ( of course he would have to get a promotion again for that) and then he can get it reversed, but I doubt that will happen. Most people never make that kind of money!
I guess I will just have to keep holding everyone else's babies. And when those babies grow up I will have to find a new way to get my baby fix!

Why I am the favorite!

It is painfully obvious that I am the favorite child when it comes to my siblings and me. :) Obviously I am an amazing person, and some might even say I am a superhero! :)But there are reasons why I am the favorite. And it is not just my awesome personality, or the 3 adorable grand kids I have given my parents it is the smaller things I do that set me apart from my brother and sister.
It really goes back to when I was a kid and the fact that I was an angel.(if you do not believe me ask my mom).... ( and if you do that ask Rob what happened last time he did not believe me on something and called my mom) Of course when I got older I hit a rough spot in my teen years. It happens and I outgrew it at some point.Of course now days in my adult years I am still the favorite for small reasons.
Like the fact that there are certain times I have picked my dad up from the airport in a snow storm, monsoon, or even lost sleep due to a delayed flight which caused me to arrive back home at 4 am! Or the fact that when he is in town I give him the privilege of watching my kids so Rob and I can go out for some alone time. ( and yes it is a privilege... I mean have you seen how cute they are?)
Or the fact that I know he is not suppose to have salt so I do not use it when cooking or baking anymore.I also lend him my husband to talk to about work, because in reality I don't really know what Rob or my dad do, and I have better things to do than listen to them.
( sorry guys, but my shows are important!)
As for my mom I am the one that convinced my dad after 41 yrs of marriage to FINALLY buy her a diamond bracelet. You are welcome mom. I also talk to her A LOT and do not hold back with the smartass comments when I know she really just needs a good laugh.I am great about sending pictures of the kids all the time. I think we all know by now that I am a camera whore and almost always have it with me!I am also a great shopping partner when my mom is in town and I still think we should buy stock in baby gap!
I could keep going but I think we all know how amazing I am! j/k!I just thought I would point out a few reasons why I am the favorite and probably will always be the favorite!

Sick of hearing it...

I don't understand all the complaining I hear from parents. Is it really that hard? Am I missing something? I do not think having and raising kids is impossible but it seems like some people really can not figure it out. Are their days when I am exhausted? Of course. Are there days when I want to pull my hair out? Of course! Are there days when we have a lot of fun and I do not want them to end? Of course! But it is a package deal and I knew what I was getting into every time I decided to have a child.
And when people talk about how they have no soc ail life or no sex life I feel like I just want to slap them. Did you think once you had kids you could still go to the bar all the time or just leave whenever you wanted to and go hang out with someone? You still have a social life its just different. Instead of drinking you hang out at the park or the pool. Or you get a babysit and go out with grownups. And if you have no sex life them I am sorry but kick the kids out of your bed and sleep next to your spouse!
And running errands! I hate people who complain that they can never go to the store, or the mall or whatever errands they may have. Its not that hard. I do it every week with 3 kids and all it is is a juggling act.It can be done just try it!
Parenthood is a JOB! it is a 24-7JOB that never ends because even when your kids are out of the house and grown up they are still your kids and you still want what is best for them. And if you did not know this before you had kids or can not handle it now than maybe being a parent is not for you!

Congrats to Lisa!

Today one of my oldest friends had her first child. A little boy named Colin that was born this afternoon. She is offically a memeber of the mommy club and Colin is in the running as Addies boyfriend. :) I am pretty sure that Colin has more hair as a newborn than Zach does as a 2.5 year old and is very adorable! I can not wait to meet him, hold him, squeeze him and cuddle him! So congrats Lisa and Tim! Enjoy your little man because they really do grow up fast!

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone enjoyed the fourth of July! This is one of my favorite days for 2 reasons. One it is my half birthday... and yes that is still a big deal to me even at 29. And 2 the FIREWORKS!!!! I love the fireworks. Every year since Alex was a baby we have been going to the fire works at Ty Warner in Westmont. This year Alex and I met a couple friends there and watched a great firework show. We had front row seats and Alex thought a couple of the fireworks might actually land on us because we were so close. It was a great day/night and holiday! Hope everyone else had a great day! And a happy birthday to my BFF Kelly! Shes 29 today, but still the same height as a 10yr old! :)

Little Red Schoolhouse!

Today was our first trip of the year to Little Red Schoolhouse. The greatest part of bringing the kids there is the face that I use to go there as a kid and NOTHING has changed! The boys loved it! Every time the crow was start making noise Zach would talk back to it. And they loved watching the snakes move... especially the really big ones. Zach was also our greeter of the day. Every time someone would walk into the schoolhouse he would say hello and when they would leave he would say bye. He really is Mr. Manners.
We also walked one of the trails. The last time I did that I was prego with Addelyn and it was about 200 degrees out. This time I carried her is the Bjorn and even though she looks little that girl gets heavy! The boys has fun though. They love running on the trail and picking up rocks and leaves. Zach of course greeted everyone we passed and also told them goodbye. Overall a fun time. Beautiful day and HOPEFULLY the kids are tired!

Friends, fun, and a beautiful day!

So yesterday a couple of my friends and I met up and I was in HEAVEN with the new babies!!! One was 4 wks and one was 6 wks and I did not know who to hold and squish more because they were both so adorable! Of course I held both of them because how Can you not hold a cute little baby! I think Addelyn was a little jealous because when she would see me holding Johnny or Michael she would start to fuss, but luckily there was someone else to hold her!
Abby, Kristin and I all met at her house and talked about kids. It seems like once you have kids that is all you talk about with people who also have kids. :)The boys played and Mia watched and played and talk to Zach a little bit. After awhile we walked to the park so the boys could run around a little and we could enjoy the beautiful day we had yesterday!
Overall it was a great time and I can not wait to do it again next week!
